Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.
With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.
Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.
In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.
How to write this review without spoiling everything in the book... (Obviously I had to think this over since I finished it four days ago... I wish. I'm just lazy.)
I didn't quite know what to expect going into the last book in this trilogy. I absolutely loved the first book, but I think the second book slid down in quality. (Still liked it though.) One aspect about the first book was this slow pace that went surprisingly fast while reading, which I found to be delicious. I was very happy that it made a return in book three. I felt that
Sever was a fitting ending to the series. There were parts of the first book, and the second book in particular, that were never fully explained, and it all comes together in a nice little green covered book at the end.
The very begging and the end were a bit slow, I think, but the majority of the book read like lightning. There were so many plot twists that I didn't see, the characters went places I never expected them to go--some things just kind of blew my mind. But one thing I do want to talk about is Linden. As some of you may know, I'm Team Linden. And without spoiling anything too much, I was initially shocked and kind of upset over what becomes of Linden, but as I sat in my room and pondered, I realized that he got a very happy ending. And I'm content. For the most part.
In the end,
Sever was everything I wanted it to be and more. It really kept me on my toes, turning pages to see what was going to happen next. Lauren DeStefano can really write, and I cannot wait to read everything else she writes in the future.
